OHS student rocks out

Tom Lasley’s band, Zustiak, makes it to second round of Battle for Pointfest

While many OHS seniors spent their spring break on the beach or just relaxing, Tom Lasley (12) was doing something a bit more metal.

On Friday, March 20, Tom’s band Zustiak (Pronounced Zeus-tiak) played a set alongside five other bands as a part of the first round of 105.7’s Battle for Pointfest. The results were good, Zustiak placed first and advanced to the next round.

On April 24, the second round commences at Pop’s Nightclub and Venue, and Zustiak will face off against five more bands for a chance to play a set at Pointfest in May. Pointfest is a large outdoor rock festival held biannually at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.

“A lot of people have heard about how well we did in the first round and it feels great to have this kind of support, it’s definitely a first for me,” Lasley said.

Of the six bands competing the top two will get to play a thirty minute set at Pointfest.

Other bands scheduled to perform include “Breaking Benjamin,” “Seether,” “Chevelle,” “The Used,” “Greek Fire,” “Meg Myers,” “Yelawolf,” and many more.
