The senior softball players stand on the first base side as they wait to meet their parents. The seniors were honored at their home game against Fox on Thursday, Sept. 18. They beat the Warriors 7-1.

The streamers and posters surrounding the softball field were not just to celebrate the Tigers’ 16-1 start. It was to honor eight important members of the team.

The OHS varsity softball team hosted its senior night against conference rival Fox on Sept. 18. Eight seniors were honored before the game.

The Tigers dominated Fox 7-1, thanks to the seniors’ contributions. Leadoff hitter and shortstop Katie Reed (12) went 2-2 with a double and three runs scored. Pitcher Alex Frenz (12) pitched a complete game with four strikeouts. Frenz, who is 14-0, has pitched 88.3 innings this season and only has a 0.55 ERA, which is second in the area.

“The seniors are always calm and have every situation under control,” head coach Rich Sturm said. Reed, Frenz, and catcher Jordan Michalski (12) have all been on varsity for four years.

The Tigers have two tournament wins and a record of 16-1 this season. Reed has a .569 average with 33 hits and 31 runs scored. Michalski has a .517 average with 32 runs batted in.

“It helps having a lot of seniors on the team.  We all want to win and we know what it takes,” outfielder Madie Behnen (12) said.

The Tigers will take the field next on Monday, Sept. 22 at home against Lafayette at 4:15 p.m.
