When it comes to offense, the varsity football team is a two-headed monster.

OHS has two “co-starters” at the quarterback position this year, seniors Kobe Allen and Bailey Vuylsteke. In the season opener against Parkway South on Friday, Aug. 21, Allen ran for a 71-yard touchdown to give OHS the lead, while Vuylsteke completed seven of his 15 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. The Tigers beat Parkway South 27-0 in front of a large home crowd for Senior Night.

“We talked about going out and having a good season, get off to a good start,” head coach Arlee Conners said. “And that’s the way to do it right there.”

Cole Eiler (11), Chase Giorgi (10), and Matt Helldoerfer (12)–among other defenders–worked together for a shutout that kept the Parkway South offense from even nearing the end zone.

“Those guys…fought and scrapped all night long. You didn’t have just one guy making plays all the time; you had multiple guys out there contributing,” Conners said.

The Tigers will play next at Eureka on Friday, Aug. 28.

“It’s a challenge that we’re definitely looking forward to,” Conners concluded.
