The clock is ticking, the time is flying and you need energy. Where do you go? The Starbucks that’s down the street or the Dunkin Donuts that’s a hop, skip and a jump away from Starbucks? In our opinion, skip Dunkin and hop on Starbucks.
From a price point, Dunkin is easier on your wallets, but has a more disappointing flavor experience when it comes to their drinks. The food options at Dunkin were better, but Starbucks also has very good options for breakfast. After reviewing a hot and cold drink, a food item and a dessert item, the solution has been found.
The iced white chocolate mocha from Starbucks was our favorite drink overall. It was $5.45 for a tall (12 fl oz.). We finished the drink and I even ordered that drink the next time I visited Starbucks. I recommend leaving the whipped cream in the drink to add to the creamy texture I prefer in my coffee. This was overall a 5 out of 5 stars.
The caramel macchiato from Starbucks was a pretty mediocre drink. We tried it too quickly and burned our mouths off, but once we got the drink and our mouths cooled down, it was pretty good. It had an off taste, but smelled really good. It was $5.15 for a short (8 fl oz.). We gave it a 3.5 out of 5 stars.
The birthday cake pop from Starbucks was a good, light, sugary snack to have. The way they presented the cake pop was not the best — it was cracked and I could see the inside. I foresee germaphobes not appreciating that. Overall, the taste was really good. It fulfilled some of my sweet cravings, but it was given a 4 out of 5 stars for presentation.
The sausage, cheddar and egg sandwich from Starbucks was really good if you are able to get past the chewy texture of the egg. Flavor-wise, we thought it was great, but texture-wise, it was like biting into rubber. It smelled and looked good, and it was $4.45 for the sandwich. We give it a 3.8 out of 5 stars.
The iced whipped churro signature latte from Dunkin started off promising, but we ended up thoroughly disappointed. The presentation of the drink was incredible — it looked and smelled good. Where it came up poorly was the aftertaste. We found ourselves reaching for the white chocolate mocha we hadn’t quite finished off yet to rinse our mouths out from the strangest aftertaste. We did not have to buy our drink — the wonderful staff gave us three drinks for free and we only had to purchase our food items, but we give it a 2 out of 5 stars.
The iced cinnamon vanilla coffee was so mediocre, we do not have much to say about it. There was another weird aftertaste and we kept coming back to see if we would get used to it, but we just were never digging the flavor, meaning we give it a 2 out of 5 stars.
The hot churro signature latte was not good at all. We don’t even have words for how much we did not like it. We both took one sip and one of us definitely gagged, so therefore it is a 1 out of 5 stars.
But now it is time for Dunkin’s redemption arc. We were standing in front of the counter waiting for our drinks when we saw on the menu our holy grail. The loaded tater tots were our favorite item of our outing for coffee. We took our first bite and both were immediately discussing how eminent the tater tots were. As we worked our way toward the end of our serving, we got a little disappointed at how the toppings only touched the upper most tater tots in the little bowl and just had plain tots at the bottom, but it was a beautiful experience, so 4.9 out of 5 stars.
The donuts were literally donuts. There was nothing special about them, but the frosting was good, so we gave it a 4 out of 5 stars.
Starbucks surely sweeps the floor with Dunkin for this review, but price-wise, Dunkin is more friendly, but the lower prices show in the quality of taste. So if you want a tasty treat, you should go to Starbucks to treat your taste buds, but if you want to treat your wallet, just choose Dunkin.
