The OHS Marching Band recently went to the Bands of America (BOA) Regional Competition in Louisville, KY. They competed against some of the best bands in America from Missouri, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee and Illinois.
Although OHS did not make top ten, Band Director Mr. Vance Brakefield is pleased with their performance and considers it “their best performance of the year.”
“We chose that event because we want to be challenged and compete against the best. In order to do that we have to see the best bands in our community,” Brakefield said.
Since they already have a strong “hello” to the beginning of their show, they plan to improve the ending by tweaking it by adding 64 more counts to the end of the show.
Alex Angle (11), who plays the clarinet, hopes this plan will help them to become more aggressive throughout the entire show. They will be working towards this goal for all their performances including their next BOA event.
“I’m looking forward to performing the best that we can and hopefully making finals for our next BOA,” Rebecca Davis (12) said.
The BOA Super Regional competition is the next major event for the OHS Band. It will be on Oct.16 at the Edward Jones Dome.
