For the second year in a row, Chaseblue was named winner of the annual OHS Battle of the Bands on Jan 19. The band took home an Applebees gift card along with the satisfaction of coming out on top once again.
Chaseblue features OHS student Tyler Schaeffer (11) and graduates Derek Baker and Miles Johnson.
“We’ve improved a lot over the year; it’s a whole new Chaseblue, a better Chaseblue,” guitar and vocal of the winning band, Derek Baker said.
Other competing bands included The Monster Within featuring OHS student Connor Johnson (11), Symptoms of the Cause including students Steven Bersebach (12), David Fernandez (12) and Taylor Clark (10), and Forgiven Projects featuring student Ryan Moyie (12). Darryl Merreawither (12) a rapping soloist, who debuted last year, performed as well.
“The hardest thing was probably the fact I had to make up a set on stage and I barely got to practice with them,” a member of Symptoms of the Cause who graduated from OHS a previous year, David Bersebach said. “But it was nice coming back to this place, I had a good time.”
After each band finished their fifteen minute set, everyone who attended got to vote for their favorite band. As they waited for the results, all the bands competing got together to sing and play the famous Journey song, “Don’t Stop Believing.” The results came and Stuco announced Chaseblue as the winners.
“My favorite thing about tonight was, well, winning’s always fun and just having a good time on stage,” Baker said.
