A 68-50 loss against Belleville East would not seem that memorable to most Tiger basketball fans, but to Javier Duren (12) that game will be one he will not soon be forgetting.
During the game, Duren scored an impressive 21 points, putting him over the 1000 career points mark. His outstanding performance against Belleville East and over the past four years elevates him into a exclusive group of Tigers.
In OHS history there has only been six other players to reach 1000 career points, two of which were in the last two years. Previous Tiger players Garret Reeg and Keith Pickens also received this special recognition. This makes it the third year in a row that a player has reached the 1000 point mark.
“He’s put in hard work and is a good example for the younger players” Head Coach Nick Traxler said about Duren’s new accomplishment.
Reaching 1000 points wasn’t a goal Duren set for himself. He just took it “one game at a time.”
I’d like to thank God and my teammates. Without them I wouldn’t be able to score. Duren said.”
