Social Studies teachers Mr. Daniel Richter and Ms. Kara Beck Pedaled the cause on Oct. 2 to help fund cancer research through the Children’s Discovery Institute. The donated proceeds stay in St. Louis to help fund cancer research through the Children’s Discovery Institute at St. Louis Children’s Hospital and the Cancer Frontier Fund.
The riders chose from among four Pedal the Cause courses. Each course started and finished at the Soldiers Memorial in downtown St. Louis. Beck chose to do the fifteen mile course for a special cancer patient she knows named Claire, who is staying at the St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
“I thought it was a great opportunity to help raise funds for cancer research and to help Claire because she really is the sweetest girl,” Ms. Beck said.
Mr. Richter chose to pedal 25 miles for the cancer research.
“It was toward a great cause and it gave me a chance to get back into shape, Mr. Richter said. “It was really fun to see other people that I knew there.”
Ms. Beck donated five hundred dollars toward the research and hopes she can get more people involved for next year.
“I think it would be great to get Leadership and everyone at school involved in order to get more fund raising,” Ms. Beck said.
