Student gives insight into working at Sweet & Sassy
How would you like to work at a job where you get to have dance parties, dress up and do crafts? Well for OHS sophomore Danica Bettis, that is exactly what her job entails at Sweet & Sassy in West County Mall.
“I am a party coordinator, so I do hair, makeup and nails,” Bettis said, “including glitter stamps and glitter in the hair if they want it…”
This job was the perfect opportunity for Bettis, as she loves helping little kids and doing activities they love. She has only worked at Sweet & Sassy for about a month and a half, but has received a lot of positive feedback.
“…I’ve already grown a lot and my managers have given me many, many compliments and told me I’m doing very good, so I like it a lot,” Bettis said.
Bettis doesn’t think she could find a better job than this and has a lot of fun working at Sweet & Sassy. The atmosphere of a workplace can be an important aspect to some on how much they enjoy their job, and Bettis believes that Sweet & Sassy has a good one.
“Depending on the day and how many parties there are, it can be really hectic, but there’s always music going on so it kinda helps soothe you…” Bettis said. “It’s all little kid music, which makes it even more fun because it’s stuff you can actually sing to and [music that] you know.”
Other than having a good time listening to the music at parties, there are many characteristics of this job that Bettis loves. She would highly recommend this job to others, especially with how helpful they are to students.
“…It really depends on the person, but I would definitely suggest it to people who like those kinds of things, like kids and the cosmetology aspects…” Bettis said. “I don’t choose my schedule, but it is very flexible. On average I probably work about 10-12 hours a week more or less…”
Balancing a job with being a high school student can be difficult sometimes, but Sweet & Sassy prioritizes students’ schoolwork and other important obligations over working.
“…It (having a flexible schedule) does help balancing work and school because I almost always still have time to do what I want or need to do,” Bettis said. “…Since it’s (her scheduled work hours) on the weekends only, I usually have time to do my homework afterwards or before, either way.”
Although Bettis is still a high school student balancing her job along with homework, she finds comfort in all of the fun included at the parties she helps with at Sweet & Sassy.
“Every time I walk in to work,” Bettis said, “I feel the kid in me wanting to have fun.”
