Golden Opportunity
The Oakville Golden Girls had a memorable experience at the first national competition they have attended.
Through Mar. 6-10 the OHS dancers were in the National dance competition in Orlando, Florida.
With this being the first time the team has ever competed and they did not know what to expect.
“All the teams were so good,” says Abby Metz (10), “it was way more intense than I would have ever expected.”
The Golden Girls did an outstanding job, in not just one dance, but two.
The squad performed very well in their “Juliet Mix routine” and their “Blue Jazz routine.” The scoring was stringent. The judges ranked all the dance teams out of 1-10, ten being the best score.
Saturday, Mar. 8, all the teams performed, the top 60% moved on to the finals on Sunday, Mar. 9.
“Competing on Sunday in the finals was absolutely amazing, I’m so incredibly proud of our team and how well we did” said Metz.
Out of the routines they performed, their Juilet Mix, their hip hop routine, scored the highest. Overall, the oakville golden girls placed 5th in the nation with this routine and placed 8th with their Blue Jazz routine.
“It was very stressful on finals day, because all the teams scores were so close and everyone was so good” explains Kristen Goetter (10).
Along with some amazing dancing, the team also found this trip as an excellent bonding experience.
“Everything about National’s was so much fun,” said Metz.
The Golden Girls along with their parents and coach are all proud of their phenomenal season and are looking forward to the upcoming seasons.
