Blessing the graduating class
Thursday, May 29, OHS will hold its annual Baccalaureate Service at Faith Lutheran at 7pm. This year the theme of the mass is Carry Me, and many OHS students are very involved.
Along with coordinators Mrs. Debbie Hessel and Karen East, members of the 2014 senior class have put together the mass and will also participate. There will be three students, Mikal Mathews (12), Adam Pleimann (12), and Evan Barthel (12), who will give testimonies about how God has gotten them, or perhaps carried them, up to this point in their lives. What is interesting about these students is that all three plan on following their religion and becoming ordained, but they are not all the same religion.
“It will be good to see a lot of different backgrounds… and a mix from all walks of life,”said Pleimann.
In addition, Principal Jan Kellermann, Assistant Principal Brian Brennan, and Mrs. Jan Vennemann, the Catholic teacher chosen by the students, will speak at the ceremony.
Other pieces of the service include a parent/ student prayer, which will be led by Bridgette Pagano (12) and her mother, and a dance performed by Mikal Mathews and his mother. Afterwards, there will be a short reception with cake and drinks.
Hessel and students alike hope to see a large turnout of OHS students and families at the mass to celebrate the class of 2014 and their graduation.
“We hope for it to be very moving spiritually, and we hope everyone feels blessed as they move into the next stage in their lives,” said Hessel.
