OHS choir sweeps the competition
This year’s choir trip was from April 22 through April 26, and took place in Williamsburg, Virginia. This was the first trip without Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Falloon, but the choirs managed to do just fine. Director Michael Wegener maintained the choir’s impeccable reputation and stellar record, with five out of the six choirs entered winning gold and one winning silver. Three Adjudicator’s awards were earned as well, through the Madrigal Choir, Women’s Chorale, and Men’s 2Legit. Chorale and 2Legit also tied for best overall choirs at the festival, and Oakville won Outstanding Choral Program. Leaving Virginia with armfuls of awards, the choirs definitely ended the year on a high note.
The trip also included a visit to Virginia Beach on Thursday; competition Friday morning and then a ghost tour of Colonial Williamsburg Friday evening; free time in Colonial Williamsburg Saturday Morning; and several hours at Busch Gardens Saturday afternoon and evening before the awards ceremony Saturday night.
Antonia Frankovic (12) says her favorite part of trip was the beach. “It felt like freedom”, Frankovic said. Alec Boeschen (11) and Noah Antle (12) had similar views of trip. Both of them agreed that the best part was 2Legit and Chorale tying for best overall choirs. Boeschen says of the 2Legit performance, “it was the best we ever did those songs, there was a great connection. It was a great way to end the year.”
