With a record of 5-3, girls varsity basketball is off to a strong start as they head into holiday break. In their most recent game, the team pulled out a 66-33 win over Marquette.

After the graduation of three essential starting seniors, two players in particular have stepped up to lead the team. Returning starters Emily Kuntze (12) and Angela Elguezabal (11) lead the team in points, assists, and rebounds.

Kuntze is currently the leading scorer at OHS with an average of 18 points per game. She achieved her personal record for most points per game after racking up 35 points during the Dec. 11 game against Marquette. Kuntze also leads the team in assists, and comes in third with rebounds.

Elguezabal is the top rebounder for OHS with an average of 9.1 rebounds per game. She is also the second leading scorer for OHS.

Underclassmen on the team are also putting in their share. Isabella Dickneite (10) and Mya Minor (9) are both averaging 5.1 points per game. Minor is also second on the team in steals.

“We are new team from last year,” said head coach Laura Bishop.  “The younger girls are doing a great job of stepping up. As the season progresses we will continue to improve.”

The girls will play their next game on January 9, against the Summit Falcons.
