Dan Helldoerfer (12) and David Rohlmann (12) were each given a scholarship on Nov. 17 for superior performance in the bowling community.
For the first time in St. Louis United States Bowling Congress (USBC) history, Helldoerfer and Rohlmann tied for the Ed Sweeney scholarship. Normally one bowler wins the scholarship. However, at the STL Hall of Fame banquet, each were given a $1500 scholarship.
“It is always awesome to receive an award for doing something that you love,” Rohlmann said, who was one of over 30 entries in the STL area.
In addition to the scholarship, Helldoerfer, Rohlmann and their other team member Mike Weaver (12) received a plaque. They were presented with the plaque for being the highest three game set in the nation for this season for 15 to 18 year olds.
“It was an amazing feeling to achieve something at a national level,” Helldoerfer said.
Helldoerfer and Rohlmann were given the chance to be in the presence of some of the best bowlers across the Saint Louis area while attending this banquet.
“We had to give a speech,” Rohlmann said. “It was nerve racking but totally worth it.”
