Volleyball claims first district title in five years
The roller coaster ride of the girls volleyball season is on its season high this week.
The girls defeated Lindbergh and Cor Jesu to capture their first district title in five years. The Tigers defeated both Lindbergh and Cor Jesu in two sets. The title was especially special for the seniors who had been on the past two teams whose season ended in districts in disappointing fashion.
“It was a great feeling to come out with heart and hustle and win districts, after having such a rough start to our season,” said senior and one of the team captains Katie Braden.
The season started with team leader Kristin Sazama (12) getting injured one day before their first game and was out the first three weeks. After her return the team still struggled to get traction. They finally got their feet under them and have finished the season strong.
The Tigers now advance to face the number one team in the area, the Lafayette Lancers. The Lancers come in 33-1, and just defeating the Tigers a few weeks ago. It will be a tough test for the Tigers.
“I think the pressure is on them, they are expected to win, we are the underdogs, we have no pressure on us,” Braden said.
The game is tomorrow and starts at 1pm.
“If we come out with the intensity we had at districts, we should be fine,” Braden said.
