JV Baseball starts out season strong
The JV baseball team got second in their first tournament of the season, the Fox/Oakville JV Tournament.
The Tigers started out with a win against Fox on March 24. Pitcher Blake Dillow (10) struck out seven players in his first nine outs, and the Tigers found holes in the defense to win 9-3 in an abbreviated 5-inning game due to the snow.
“I felt good that day…a lot of control,” Dillow said. “It was hard to grip the ball in the snow. It was the first time I’ve ever played in the snow.”
Their next game was against Lindbergh on Tuesday (March 25). The Tigers led 5-2 going into the top of the 7th inning. The Flyers came back to score 5 runs, and OHS couldn’t come back in the bottom of the 7th. Oakville lost to Lindbergh 7-5.
With the bitterness of Tuesday’s tough loss still in their heads, OHS was determined to win against Mehlville March 27. In the fifth inning, the Tigers scored 8 runs to come back 9-8. They went on to win 12-8, pulling off their own comeback win.
“We had our ups and downs,” first baseman and outfielder Josh Kuntze (10) said. “[We have a] good team and a lot of potential, and hopefully it carries over to the rest of the season.”
