Varsity football still searching for first win
The OHS varsity football team played a rare afternoon game against Hazelwood East on Saturday, Sept. 6. They again struggled with offense, failing to score until the fourth quarter.
The Spartans’ defense kept OHS from scoring until the fourth quarter. The Tigers lost 34-7.
Kicker David Chopin (11) noted that the teams were unevenly matched at times. “Hazelwood East had bigger and faster guys than we did,” Chopin said. “So they were harder to defend.”
Hazelwood led 27-0 at halftime. Halfway into the fourth quarter, OHS finally got some momentum.
“We made a few good plays and seemed to get in a groove.” wide receiver Antwan Banks (11) said.
With 7:55 left in the fourth quarter, quarterback Carvon Robinson (12) threw a 20-yard pass to Banks for a touchdown. Chopin kicked the extra point, and neither team scored again. The final score was 34-7.
The varsity football team is now 0-3 and will play next on Friday, Sept. 12 against Fox at home at 7 p.m.
