Soccer takes a hit
The varsity boys soccer team has taken a blow in their senior leadership these past couple weeks, potentially affecting the results of the rest of their season.
Within their first couple games, leading defenseman and captain Matt Greubel (12) experienced a head injury that would remove him from play time for the majority of the season. He underwent a concussion during a headball at the game against Fort Zumwalt during a tournament in early September.
After an already withdrawn team leader, captain and leading scorer Brad Sovich (12) took a hit to the hip during a game on Sept. 15 at OHS.
“I went down and felt an increasing pain. I ended up partially tearing my hip and I will be out for the rest of the regular season, maybe making an appearance for districts,” Sovich said.
With the team’s leadership absent from the playing field, their record has taken a rough course, as losses have increased during their tournament play. As for their regular season, however, their record has experienced no extreme changes, maintaining at 6-1.
Goaltender Sean Miskovic (12) and lead offenseman Samed Ganibegovic (11) have filled in the gap of leadership on the field, stepping up to the plate.
“It is a little disappointing not being able to lead both on and off the field, but I think these boys have really came together, pushing the team to their best,” Greubel added.
Despite a loss of two important figures, the boys varsity soccer team has really pulled it together, making it for an interesting, yet positive outcome for the rest of the season.
