Marching band springs into competition season
Band scores in top twelve at Blue Springs competition
On Oct. 3, 2015, the OHS band traveled to Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs MO for a regional competition. Twenty-six bands from four states, including Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, and Missouri, competed in this competition.
The band’s show was called Band Together and centered on bully awareness. They performed three songs: “Same Love” by Macklemore, “Beautiful” by Christina Aguilera, and “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence.
“It was one of our best performances. It was really cool to see how the audience liked the theme of our show,” saxophone player Sara Ravens (12) said.
The band did not place in their division but, being scored in the top 12, they did make it into finals. Eleven bands from the 5A-6A division and one from the 2A-4A division made it into finals. The OHS band placed 7 out of 12.
“The band got better,” Assistant director Mr. Theron Perkowski said. “Our goal is to improve from performance to performance.”
