Hockey plunges into preseason
At the start of preseason, the Oakville ice hockey team did not quite take the top hat in the annual Webster Top Hat Classic tournament, but with one win under their belt, the team looks forward to a new season.
The tigers were defeated in their first game against SLUH, losing 9-1, with the goal scored by senior Ryan Mitchell in the late second period. They then started out strong against Kirkwood, scoring a goal in the first few minutes of the first period by Mark Capkovic (11). However, that was the only goal scored, and the team fell short as Kirkwood won 5-1. The downhill stamina changed when OHS faced Parkway South, winning 4-1, an addition to a hat trick completed by Luke Felts (11). Making it to the Quarter-finals, OHS faced a challenging game to 14 time Midstates’ Challenger cup champions, CBC. Despite fighting hard, they lost 9-0.
Defenseman Johnny Peters (12) says the team will remain optimistic as they plunge into their upcoming season with full force.
Their next game is the first game of regular season play. It will take place on Nov. 7, in the new home arena, Affton Ice Rink, at 7 pm.
