Freshmen girls basketball crush Parkway Central
“Push it to the limit- go Tigers, go!” the freshmen cheer squad shouted, pumping up the crowd as the freshmen girls basketball team played against Parkway Central on Thursday, Jan. 12.
The Tigers certainly did push themselves to the limit.
Two free-throw swishes by Mackenzie Montandon (9) helped increase the lead to 18-4 by halftime, but things were just getting started.
With great defense and numerous successful free throws, along with a three-point basket shot by Madeline Sturgess (9) in the third quarter, the lopsided game ended with an OHS win 42-8. Sturgess and Jenna Frisella (9) were the team’s top scorers, Sturgess scoring seven points and Frisella scoring eight points.
Overall, coach Amelia Darby was pleased with the result of the game. “(The game) went well,” she said. “They had a great time. They had good crowd support (and) bench support. They played really well as a team.”
Its first victory at home increased the team’s record to 3-2. The Tigers look to add another win to their record when they face Lafayette at home on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
“All the freshman girls have been gaining confidence and becoming stronger players this far into the season,” Darby said. “I am excited to see what this last month of the season has in store.”
