Hard work pays off, hockey cheer places second in competition
Oakville Hockey cheerleaders wrap up their season by performing in a competition at Lindbergh High School on Feb. 26.
The cheerleaders have been preparing for this competition since November, practicing every Saturday morning and Sunday night. Not only did they use this time to practice, they used this time as team bonding to come closer with each other. The cheerleaders showed off their routines to their parents and friends before the competition as a dress rehearsal.
“My favorite part about competing would be seeing how our hard work paid off, how close we got, and seeing our friends from other schools compete, and just cheering them on,” Aurianna Rios (12) said.
The cheerleaders were competing against eight other schools. The time and commitment was worth it, placing first in cheer and chant and third in dance and second place overall.
The chant part of the competition can be very competitive, “The best part of competition was hearing that we got first in chant. It was such an amazing feeling!” captain Kaitlyn Nienhaus (12) said.
