Nothing but cheers and applause is what one OHS student-athlete heard as she made history at a recent basketball game.

For Emily Kuntze (12 ), the contest at Notre Dame on Jan. 23 was no ordinary game. This was the game she would hit the 1,000-point mark for her high school career.

“I’ve been working towards this goal for a long time,” she said. “To hit it feels great.”

As she went in to the game against Notre Dame, Kuntze needed 25 points to reach the  milestone. About halfway through the fourth quarter Kuntze scored on a layup to give her 25 points for the night as OHS went on to beat Notre Dame 54-34.

“The crowd went nuts; it was insane,” said Kuntze. “It felt really good. I was very excited.”

Kuntze has been on the varsity basketball team all four years as the combo guard. She averages 19 points a game, and leads the team in points, assist, and steals. “Offensively she creates all of our offense, weather shes scoring or assisting” said head coach Laura Bishop

Kuntze has been playing the sport ever since she was in preschool, and can’t imagine her life without basketball. She recently got got accepted into Missouri Southern State for basketball, on a part time scholarship.
