Julian Davies (11) ‘pins’ competition to the mat

With the recent success of the OHS wrestling program, there has been one student athlete that has stood above his competition. Julian Davies (11) has really shown he belongs on the mats with his 20-2 record as of .

This year, Davies dropped from weight class 138 to 132 after coming down with a  food related sickness. After losing his first match of the season at 138, he has lost just once at 132.

“The change really put me in a good spot to win.” said Davies.

The tournament scene is no different. He has placed first in the Parkway West and Brentwood tournament and second in the Vianney tournament.

“Julian has been doing good because he has put in a lot of work in the offseason.” Coach Ben Knol said. “He wrestled freestyle last spring.”

“This success has really helped me work harder and progress,” Davies said. “I hope I will have a future of winning and, best case, state.”

“If I get go to state I think I will win at least one.” Davies modestly said, “but honestly I don’t care how far I go I just want to get better than last year.”

Davies will compete Jan. 22 at an OHS Tri tournament with McCluer South at 5 pm.
