Ladage and Anderson score a goal at Oakville’s home game against Lafayette. “It was really exciting to assist in scoring the first goal at our first home game of the season,” Ladage said. The team is really looking forward to how the season plays out.

The Oakville girls varsity soccer team had their first two games this week. They have a 1-1 record so far, and the team as a whole believes they have what it takes to perform well in postseason.

“I think we have a really good team chemistry and a really good chance of winning districts or conference this season,” Sydney Ladage (12) said.

On Tuesday, March 28, the team played their first game of the season. Oakville played Mehlville on Mehlville’s turf. Oakville won with a final score of 3-0. Avery Bangert (12) scored the first goal of the game with a breakaway assisted by Kylie Anderson (12). Ladage (12) scored the second goal with a cross assisted by Madeline Kreitler (9). And Bangert scored the final goal against Mehlville with a cross from Grace Kestler (12).

“From whistle to whistle, we dominated. For being our first game of the season, the girls played well,” coach Sarah Guenther said. “There is room for improvement, but I think that can be quickly adjusted.”

The team played their second game of the season on March 30 against Lafayette on home turf. Lafayette won 2-1. Anderson had a header off a corner and scored Oakville’s goal with assistance from Ladage.

“As a coaching team, we are still trying to figure out the positions that each player belongs to, but I think we are going to do amazing,” Guenther said.

Come support the team at their next game against Ursuline Academy on April 4 at 6 p.m. on home turf.
