“Music at Meramec” sings its way to OHS
Music is abundant at OHS in the choir and band programs. But sometimes, music can influence students and their future.
“Music at Meramec” is the music program at St. Louis Community College (SLCC) on the Meramec campus. They are in charge of the Visual, Design, and Performance Art department at the college, and the students are abundant in the programs.
“We also offer ensembles for academic credit including the Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Voices of Magic, Orchestra, Symphonic Band and Jazz Improvisation Combos,” Mr. Gerald Myers, the director of the program, said.
Two of those ensembles, the Chamber Singers and Voices of Magic, goes on an annual tour to several of the high schools in the St. Louis area. This year, they went to eight different high schools, including OHS.
“On our two-day tour, in addition to performing, we talk to students about STLCC and our Music Program,” Myers said.
The group also talks about the benefits of the music program at Meramec. They talk about courses students can take, scholarships that are offered, and auditions that may help the student move further in a music career.
