The Commons, Cafeteria, Gyms, and Foyer fill with tables of homemade goods…the Band Craft Fair is here!
From 9 am to 4 pm on Dec. 5 and from 10 am to 4 pm on Dec. 6, Oakville residents shopped from a variety of vendors. The vendors got to keep the money they made, but the OHS band made money from concessions and a booth fee charged to vendors.
For over 35 years band has organized this event with over 450 crafters. This year every available spot was sold out. Products range from jewelry and home decor to cooking tools and chocolates.
“It is a big event for us and without it we wouldn’t be able to function the way we do,” Mr. Vance Brakefield, band director, said.
This event has customers from all over the county, many who were OHS teachers, parents, and students.
“I liked [this year] better than the past,” Allison Lenhard (12) said, “It was super crowded but there was lots of stuff being sold.”
Not only does band organize this fundraiser, but the band students and parents put in their own time to help set-up and run it. The students acted as runners for the vendors before, during, and after the event.
“I worked in the kitchen which was fun. I also worked in Gym B and attendance prizes Saturday and Sunday,” Jacob Geldmacher (9) said.
The money made this year will go toward equipment, travel, and general funds for band.
