Golden Girls prepare for NDA Nationals
Oakville’s Golden Girls prepared this week for their trip to NDA Nationals in Florida.
Preview night, an opportunity to show off their routines one last time before taking the stage, was Monday, Feb. 22 in Gym A, and all levels (varsity, JV, and the Junior Goldens) performed starting at 6:30 p.m. Ideally, this performance will ready them for the challenges ahead.
At last year’s Nationals, the varsity Golden Girls placed in both of their routines, winning fourth in the team performance and sixth in the jazz category. This year the girls will also be entering a pom routine into the mix. They will be traveling to Orlando, and the competition is at the Hard Rock Live in City Walk from February 25-29.
Getting to this competition was no easy feat.
Golden Girls coach Ms. Tiffany Aboussie said, “The girls received an automatic bid to nationals after winning the varsity division at summer camp.”
Hopefully the girls’ success will continue as they take on the 303 other teams traveling to the competition. Of these teams, 40 percent will not make it to the finals. However, after their success at state, placing second in two of their routines, the GG’s chances seem favorable.
“I know the girls will deliver their very best performances on the nationals stage,” Aboussie said. “Results are always scary, because it all comes down to the opinions of a judging panel. We will just hope for the best.”
The girls leave on Thursday, Feb. 25.
