35 band students qualify for state solo & ensemble

Several saxophone players from OHS warm up before their performance at district solo & ensemble.

Thanks to their work in the district solo and ensemble contest, 35 band students are heading to state.

OHS band students went to Parkway Central High School on March 5 to perform. The students were divided by instruments and performed solos or in groups of three to eight. The soloists or ensembles performed one song of their choice and were evaluated by one judge. They received a score of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. In order to qualify for state, they must score a 1.

“It takes a lot of practice to qualify for state, but it totally paid off,” state qualifier Emma O’Donnell (11) said.

Those who qualified for state will perform the same song they played at districts but will be evaluated by different judges. State will be held at the University of Missouri on April 30.
