NHS holds drive for children’s hospital
National Honor Society is putting on a “Spring Cleaning” drive for the first time to help cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
NHS will be collecting small apparel items, such as hats, gloves, scarfs, and socks, board and card games, books, candy, and gum during ANP from March 28 until April 7. The collected items will be taken to St. Louis Children’s Hospital with a local Girl Scout troop, where the gifts will be distributed to the chemo patients.
Club President Amy Kaznica (12), who came up with the idea for the drive, said, “My sister’s Girl Scout troop is going to take the items, make them into care packages and bring them there as a field trip.”
The Girl Scouts hope that their visit and gifts will brighten the patients’ days and give them something to look forward to.
The ANP that collects the most items will be rewarded with a small prize that has yet to be determined. If the drive has as much success as anticipated, members hope to continue it next year.
