In Academic Networking Period (ANP), OHS students are usually getting help from their teachers or doing homework. On Wed., Jan. 28, ANP had a different purpose than it had before in the 2014-2015 school year.

Elective Preview Day has been held for the past seven years during ANP to help students explore the different electives OHS has to offer. The day gives insight to students who want to follow a certain path of electives to learn more about a career they want to get in to or a major they want to study in college.

“[Elective Preview Day] can give [students] insight to what career they want to do,” Steven King, an OHS guidance counselor, said.

Several departments were promoted during the preview day. Tech Ed, Art, Business, and English departments were just a few of the subjects that gave out information about the wide variety of classes the school has to offer.

“We had a huge turnout for Social Studies,” Ms. Sue Caton, the AP Psychology teacher, said. “We had a lot of interest from a lot of kids.”

To provide insight on the health classes, University of Missouri Health Sciences Program Director David Colt spoke on Elective Preview Day. This was the first time OHS had a guest speaker on the preview day.

“All in all, I think the day was a success,” King said.
