The OHS quiz bowl team held its annual tournament on Nov. 4 where several students were able to compete for the first time.

This was a “novice tournament,” meaning only underclassmen and juniors who have one or no years of experience can compete. The team representing OHS consisted of Christina Meier (11), Demi Elrod (10), Norah Kovac (10), Hannah Franke (9), and Michael Fetter (9).

“My team won three of out the four games we played,” said Elrod. “Quiz bowl is really fun. It’s a great place to show what you know.

The tournament featured 13 schools and 18 teams total. All of the rounds took place in rooms throughout the English hallway. The OHS students who were not competing were able to listen in on the competitions while keeping score.

Quiz bowl’s first tournament was on Oct. 14 at Eureka. OHS returning team members won four rounds and lost five. This past weekend, the quiz bowl team ended the tournament with three wins and six losses. Although they didn’t win, the team felt proud of how they competed, this being their first tournament.

“It was a new experience. I’ve never played quiz bowl before,” said Kovac. “But it was fun to learn all the different rules of the game. I’m really excited for future tournaments.”
