OHS faculty and staff surprise seniors with yard signs
With the senior class missing the last part of senior year, the OHS faculty and staff tried to make things a little better. On May 2, OHS staff members delivered yard signs to each senior.
“This is such an odd and untraditional situation, we wanted to give a shout out to the class that is getting short changed for their final year of high school,” said Becky Czuppon, the athletic director at OHS.
Czuppon, along with Mrs. Laura Bishop, an OHS gym teacher, and Mrs. Becky Bruning, an English teacher, organized the event after the principals saw the idea on social media and suggested it.
“Mrs. Czuppon and Mrs. Bishop sent a message to the teachers asking for volunteers to deliver the signs. There was a tremendous response,” said Assistant Principal Brian Brennan, administrator for the senior class.
Staff members volunteered to deliver signs to groups of seniors. The signs — which read “We love our 2020 Oakville Seniors” — were delivered to OHS and prepped for distribution. Then the volunteers met in the OHS parking lot on a bright Saturday morning, where signs were loaded into their cars.
The response to the signs was overall a positive one. “I thought the yard sign deliveries were very thoughtful,” said Elianora Ovchiyan (12). “It was a nice surprise to wake up to.”
