A bumpy ride: Hockey enjoys the highs, feels the lows
With a record of 10-7-1 the hockey Tigers have had an up and down season so far.
They started off hot in the pre-season tournament (Top Hat) making it to the final against CBC. Although they fell 5-4, the tournament showed great promise for the team.
The Tigers continued this success into the start of the regular season, with dominating wins over Fort Zumwalt West, Seckman, and Kirkwood. But, Marquette came in to spoil the party, beating the Tigers 4-3.
“The loss against Marquette really plateaued our success” senior assistant captain Kirby Phillips said.
There is no doubt the loss against Marquette affected the Tigers. Over the next ten games they would go 5-5. The team would then have their revenge, beating Marquette 4-2.
“We have started to turn it around with the start of the new year”, senior captain Lance French said, “We will have a tough road in the playoffs, but I think we’ll make a deep run.”
The Tigers have big shoes to fill going into the playoffs, the Oakville hockey club has made the State Semifinals two years in a row. And with 13 seniors, the underclassmen will look to send them off in the right way.
“I try not to think about the end and stay focused on the task at hand, but I will miss it” Phillips said.
The Tigers play next, on Thurs., (1/16), vs Eureka.
