Eureka spoils Tiger Senior Night
The OHS varsity football team’s seniors were recognized at Senior Night for the first home game on Friday, Aug. 29. However, the final outcome of the game did not leave much to celebrate.
OHS lost its first home game against Eureka, 46-6. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead in the first three minutes of the game with a quick touchdown pass, and the Tigers never came back. At halftime the Wildcats were winning 30-0.
“Definitely not what we envisioned,” head coach Arlee Conners said. “We just didn’t give it enough.”
The Tigers scored for the first time in the third quarter when quarterback Carvon Robinson (12) sprinted 15 yards into the endzone. Robinson was forced to sit out for the first half of the game due to disciplinary reasons but started the second half.
“We didn’t have our regular quarterback in there the first half, so we had to deal with what we [had],” Conners said. “We still have to find a way to get it done.”
The offense struggled to move the ball efficiently, not gaining a first down until the second half. The defense allowed six touchdowns, although several key upperclassmen made good tackles.
The Tigers are 0-2 and will play next on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 1:00 at Hazelwood East.
Arsante’ Conners (12) stands with his family to celebrate Senior Night. Arsante’ is the son of head coach Arlee Conners.
