Softball starts season strong with explosive offense and pitching
With a record of 8-1 and a win in the Rockwood Summit Tournament, the varsity softball team is ranked No. 1 in the area and has only let up 10 runs in their first nine games.
Their success is a mixture of great pitching and solid offense that comes from new players’ contributions as well as 11 returning players, including eight seniors.
According to head coach Rich Sturm, “It’s a good mixture of younger kids and older kids on our team.”
As of Sept. 10, pitcher Alex Frenz (12) was ranked first in the area with an earned run average of 0.16. Through Wednesday, she allowed one earned run through 44 innings pitched over seven games.
“Alex Frenz has done a tremendous job,” Sturm said.
Through eight games, catcher Jordan Michalski (12) has led the offense with a .577 average, 15 hits, and 17 RBIs. Also through eight games, Katie Reed (12) has a .500 average and leads the team in runs scored with 15.
The softball team looks to continue its strong start this weekend in the Jefferson City Tournament Sept. 12-13.
