Varsity soccer plays three intense games to prepare for districts
The OHS varsity soccer team fought hard in three games in their second-to-last week before districts. It started out at a unique venue and ended on a rare weekend game.
The week began on a rainy night against formidable opponent CBC. At halftime the score stood at a hard-earned 1-1. The team still had work to do: rally to deal CBC a devastating defeat.
The Tigers beat CBC by a score of 3-2 on Monday, Oct. 13 at GCS Ballpark, where the Gateway Grizzlies independent minor league baseball team plays. The Tigers’ goal in the first half was scored by midfielder Kolade Osikoya (12). Colin Moran (12) and Brad Sovich (11) scored in the second half to win.
OHS played next against Chaminade on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Though the team led 1-0 at halftime, the close game ended in a 3-2 loss. To end the week, OHS beat St. Mary’s at home 3-1 on Saturday, Oct. 18.
Going into its last week of regular-season games, the team has a record of 13-8-1, and Thomas Hutcheson (12) is tied for first place in the area in game-winning goals with nine. The team will play Parkway South on Oct. 21 and then finish the regular season on Oct. 23 at home against Lafayette. Both games are at home and at 6 p.m.
