Football will play in district semifinal after win over Parkway South

The varsity football earned another game in its season after beating Parkway South on Friday, Oct. 24; as a reward, the team will play Jackson, the No. 1 team in Class 5, District 1 with a record of 8-1.

The Tigers avenged an earlier regular-season loss by beating Parkway South 31-19 in the first  round of playoffs. OHS played Parkway South in the first football game of the season on Aug. 22 and lost 10-6.

The Tigers were anchored by a defense that had three interceptions. Matt Helldoerfer (11) had two sacks, and Arsante’ Conners (12) had a fumble recovery and five tackles.

“I did well on offense,” Conners said. “I had a few big plays and I grabbed a touchdown.”

On offense, quarterback Carvon Robinson (12) completed 12 of his 19 passes and threw for two touchdowns. He passed for 185 yards and ran for 140 yards.

The team ended the season with a 5-5 record. They are hoping to ride their momentum into this week’s showdown against Jackson at Jackson High School at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31.

“We are going to do really good; this will be our best game yet,” Arsante’ Conners said. “It has to be our best game yet.”
