Varsity basketball defeated by Lindbergh

Brenden Gillmann has the ball at the SLU game earlier this year.

Heading into the Jan. 20 game at Lindbergh, the OHS varsity basketball team was riding a two-game winning streak after wins against Lutheran North and Clayton last week. After starting the season 2-9, this seemed like a good point in the season to start winning again.

However, Lindbergh stopped the team’s momentum with momentum of its own. OHS lost to Lindbergh, 65-44.

“It was a game of runs and we didn’t do a very good job of stopping their penetration,” head coach Nick Traxler said. “And that hurt us in the game.”

Guard Brenden Gillmann (10) was the team’s top scorer with 11 points. Gillmann is leading the team in points this season, averaging 11.7 points per game. Forward Noah Baker (11) scored 10 points and went 4-4 at the free throw line. Even with the Tigers’ offense, however, the team was not able to stop a Lindbergh team that is now 8-7.

“I think we’re going to have to work on our individual defense. If we can shore that up, we should be alright,” Traxler said.

The team is now 4-10 with 11 games left in the regular season and will play at Parkway South on Friday, Jan. 22.
