Water polo prepares for season with senior-heavy team
This year the OHS varsity water polo team is expecting a strong yet challenging season led by its mostly senior lineup.
The team consists of nine seniors and one junior. Christian Niehoff (12), team captain and goalie, and Jarad Wahl (12) stand out as the team’s top returning athletes and were both All-District players last season.
Head coach Mr. Dan Schoenfeld said that it is a very experienced and accomplished group and that he has high expectations for this season’s turnout. “You always have to adapt to the team that you have,” said Schoenfeld. He also said that their goal for this season is to become “the best defense in St. Louis, and that is going to create opportunities on the offensive side.” He expects a strong season from this team leading up to the district tournament.
“It’s always a grind,” said Schoenfeld about the tournament, which he says is going to be the most challenging event of their season.
