Girls cross country off to running start
With 11 runners returning and only two newcomers, the girls cross country team is using their experience to their advantage.
The girls kicked off the season by finishing second out of 25 schools at the Lutheran South Invitational on Sept 1. They credit the amount of experienced and motivated runners the team has this year for their success. Top returning runners Magalie Thauvette (12), Emily Bayer (11), Bridget Costello (11), Lexie Huether (10) and Emma Mueller (10) all finished in the top 20 and received individual medals.
“I think the first meet added more momentum for the girls.. they are excited and more of a team because they realize their potential,” said Ms. Kelsey Tunze, a new addition to the coaching staff this season.
On the following meet, the girls earned 13th place out of 39 schools in their division at the Forest Park Cross Country Festival on Sept 10.
“We have a more competitive drive from last year and we had better training over the summer… and I think that everyone has a stronger willpower to reach the finish.” Huether said.
See the girls in action at their next meet at Hancock High School on Sept 24.
