Garrett Balassi (12) chases after the ball in a game against Seckman on Sept. 6.

The numbers say it all. In 10 games, 13 goals, five assists and four game winning goals.

Garrett Balassi (12) has made a name for himself in Oakville varsity soccer this year. Balassi is the varsity team’s leading scorer.

Head Coach David Robben said, “Garrett has the unique ability to score goals. These goals have been scored because of Garrett’s speed and quickness in the box and his ability to make up his mind to score and turn it on at the exact moment.”

Balassi started playing soccer when he was about 4 years old. While growing up he watched his brothers play ; he later followed their footsteps and played as well. Balassi’s passion has led him to achievements in soccer.

Balassi says, “The love of the game and just having fun kept me playing.”

After high school Balassi plans on playing soccer for a Division II school. He is thinking about majoring in engineering and wants to go to Missouri Science and Technology or Colorado School of Mines. Studying for an engineering major will be difficult but he loves the game and is trying his best to get the best of both worlds.

Coach Robben says, “A cursory look at the success Garrett has a demonstrated in the Math and Science classes at OHS indicate he is prepared to pursue an education in the field of engineering.”

The Oakville Varsity has about 10 more games left this season. You can see Balassi play on Oct. 18 at Oakville for the Senior Night game against Eureka.
