Girls Varsity soccer kicking off the season
After losing their first game to Kirkwood in penalty kicks on March 28, the varsity girls soccer team came back the next day (March 29) to beat Mehlville. Ashley Guardado (11) and Chelsea Morris (12) both scored, making the final score 2-0.
“It always feels good to win a game, but it felt better than just good to beat Mehlville. With them being our rivals, there is always more competition and on top of that, we lost to them in districts last year. So, there was more of a drive to win,” Mackenzie O’Neill (12) said.
The girls also played Kickapoo in a tournament game on Friday, March 31, where they tied 0-0.
The team is looking forward to their upcoming games. “We have a pretty tough schedule this year and about four more games than we did last year so that will be a little bit of a challenge, but we are ready for it. I think once we all start to mesh on the field better and play a couple more games, we will be fun to watch and hard to beat,” goalie Emily Jackson (12) said.
The girls’ next game will be against Pattonville on April 4, starting at 6 p.m..
