Michalski leads softball honors
MICHALSKI AWARDED ALL-STATE RECOGINITION
Varsity softball player Maddie Michalski (12) was recognized for her contribution to the OHS softball program by being named first team all-state.
All-State is an award that selects six infielders out of about 400 in Missouri.
Head coach Rich Sturm says all-state is considered the most elite award a high school player can receive.
This is Michalski’s third straight year receiving all-state recognition. Michalski feels this was a great accomplishment, not only for her but also for the softball program as well.
“For the past four years I have had great coaches and teammates who have helped shaped me into the person and player I have become,” Michalski said. “I couldn’t ask for a better coaching staff or group of girls to help me achieve this accomplishment.”
Michalski doesn’t let unexpected things get in her way. Suffering from a few concussions throughout the year, she still was determined to continue playing. She led the team with 45 runs scored, three home runs, 15 doubles, and six triples. She also batted.495.
“Not only have I been a part of a team but a part of a family,” Michalski said.
Michalski plans to attend Wichita State University in Kansas to continue her softball career next fall.
“I won’t just miss the plays and the hits Maddie made on the field,” Coach Sturm said. ”It’s her leadership, how she carries herself and she has the ability to make other people around her better.”
