Four OHS students place in sectionals
Despite a losing record in their dual matches, varsity golf still had some success.
Four players, James Drennan (11), Oliver Right (11), Andrew Ellis (11), and Travis Herrick (11) advanced to sectionals on April 29 at Crown Pointe Golf Course. Ellis and Right just missed the cut for state.
“It is cool being one of the few players to get to advance to sectionals because only a few people get to go that far,” said Herrick.
Drennan was 15 over par, scoring an 87. Right was 4 over par, scoring a 76. Ellis and Herrick both scored 16 over, ending with an 88.
“The season had its ups and downs,” said Drennan. “Through it all, me and my teammates had a great time playing with each other and trying to get better.“
The four players transitioned to sectionals to compete to advance to state on May 6 at Kimbeland Country Club.
Ellis missed the cut by just one stroke and Right missed by three strokes.
“It feels great that I was able to shoot a solid round before the season ends,” said Right. “I had a really fun year this year and hope to have a similar experience next year.”
