Boys swim wins first-ever conference championship, prepares for state meet
The boys swim team has had a lot of success this season. And their accomplishments are not over yet.
After a 12-7 regular season, the boys won the conference championship at Clayton on Nov. 5 for the first-time in school history.
“I would say it was a team victory for the Conference Championship,” said Coach Dan Schoenfeldt. “We had 20 guys, and everybody made it back either as a participant or alternate.”
This week the boys will compete in the state meet at Saint Peters Rec-Plex. The state qualifiers in individual series include Douglas Poertner (10) for the 100 butterfly, Luke Schmidt (11) for the 200 freestyle, Seth Steinbrueck (10) for the 500 freestyle, Mason Zimmermann (10) for the 200 individual medley and the 100 backstroke, Steven Boaz (11) for the 1-meter diving, and Alex Waller (11) for 1-meter diving.
“I am working out and practicing my turns and my starts,” said Boaz. “And for diving I am working on my entries and my height off the board.”
The state qualifiers for the 200 medley relay include Mason Zimmermann (10), Steven Boaz (11), Douglas Poertner (10), and Mitch Daues (10). Another group of state qualifiers includes Poertner (10), Zimmerman (10), Schmidt (11), and Steinbrueck (10) in the 400 freestyle relay.
