Marina and the diamonds- concert review

On Friday night, UK artist Marina and the Diamonds brought her last “Lonely Hearts Club” tour to The Pageant. Her second album, “Electra Heart,” was the basis for this tour.

Marina is an indie-pop singer who began her career in 2005. She took off when she was discovered opening for Gotye. She was later signed and blew up in the UK after she came in second on the BBC Sound of 2010 poll list. She has two albums released in the states which are “The Family Jewels” and “Electra Heart.” “Electra Heart” shot up to number one in the UK when it was released and was in the top 30 here in the states.

The “Lonely Hearts Club” tour has gone on for almost a year, starting in 2012 in the UK before making its’ way over to the United States in 2012 and she repeated the same sequence this year. She also opened up for Coldplay back in the summer of 2012 in North America.

Marina had one opening act on this leg of the tour, English pop singer Charlotte Aitchison or better known as Charli XCX. Charli is brand new in America and fairly new over in the United Kingdom. She recently dropped her debut album “True Romance” here in the states which is what her set list consisted of. Charli had a pop-rock vibe about her and was very energetic on stage. Charli wrote the pop hit “I Love It” for Icona Pop and performed it that night.

Marina came out a half hour later with an upbeat introduction she recently wrote which is titled “Electra Heart.” She opened up with a song off of her second album which was “Homewrecker.” Marina did a nice mix of songs from her first and second albums. She honestly put on one of the best show I have seen in awhile. To be honest, she is fabulous and electric, which showed in her performance that night. She has such a beautiful voice and I feel that she is one of the most underrated artists out there. With upbeat performances of songs such as “Primadonna” and “Oh No!” to softer performances like “Teen Idle” and “Numb,” Marina never failed to disappoint Friday night. I highly recommend everyone to go check her out on iTunes.
