At the Sept. 16 varsity football game, eighth grade band students joined the marching band.
The tradition brings together students from Oakville and Bernard Middle Schools and the OHS band. The middle school students play the national anthem as well as the fight song.
“My favorite part was getting to go on the field,” Bernard flutist Hannah Brasier said . “The atmosphere was really exciting and fun.”
The visit is designed to give eighth graders an idea of what honor band, especially playing and marching at football games, is all about.
“We want to show them what band is like in hopes that they join us next year,” drum major Katie Bayer (12) said. “We want to give them a taste of all the fun we have in band.”
After the game, all of the students were invited to interact at an ice cream social in the cafeteria. The treats were provided and served by the band parents.
“I’m excited for next year because all the people are really nice and have a lot of fun,” Brasier said.
