OHS choir students made a definite impression at the MSHSAA District Solo and Ensemble Festival on March 3. Walking away with almost every group and soloist making state, it is safe to say it was a successful day.
MSHSAA District Solo and Ensemble Festival consisted of 14 ensemble groups and 25 soloists from OHS. They practiced once a week for two months prior to the competition, where they picked out two songs that they had to memorize and perform.
“It’s nice to be in an ensemble,” Solo and Ensemble performer Devin Clark (12) said. “It is very one on one and you connect with your group so well!”
The day of the competition turned a very successful one. OHS walked away with 13 students receiving Honor 1 rating on their solos, and 11 mixed, Girl’s, and Boy’s ensemble groups receiving Honor 1 ratings on their performances as well.
All the groups who received Honor 1 ratings will be participating in the State Festival at Mizzou on April 28.
“State competitions are a lot of fun, but also a lot of pressure,” Clark said. “We have a great amount of talent and I think we are going to deliver a solid performance!”
