Ally McClung raises awareness for veterans
Ally McClung (12) is in the STL CAPS program, more specifically in the Medical and Healthcare strand. It allows high school seniors to find a profession.
In the Medical and Healthcare program, McClung was challenged to choose a cause that she was passionate about. She had to finish three components within her project, which include volunteering, raising awareness, and educating.
McClung chose The Veterans Affair St. Louis Healthcare System as her organization.
“I chose this cause because my brother is currently serving in The United States Air Force.” McClung said.
Also, for the raising awareness aspect, she chose to create this fundraiser in order to endorse personal health among the people who have sacrificed their lives for us.
This fundraiser was a collection of personal hygiene items for veterans who cannot afford them on their own. The items included mini shampoo bottles, body washes, bars of soap, toothpaste toothbrushes, razors, floss, mouthwash, shaving cream, hand sanitizer, etc. The fundraiser ended on April 5. McClung ended up collecting over 400 items for the veterans.
“The fundraiser went extremely well,” said McClung, who collected about 200 items over her goal.
